STP frontman Scott Weiland says he is currently recording a Christmas album. It will feature “traditional jazz style” music, with strings, upright bass, horns and piano on variety of Christmas classics, as well as a less-traditional reggae adaptation of “Little Drummer Boy” and a couple of secular songs.
Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) had recorded a new song, “Better Days”, for the Julia Roberts movie Eat Pray Love. It looks like the song itself will be released as a limited edition 7″ on September 20th.
Motorhead legend Lemmy Kilmister has confirmed to play along with Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, David Lee Roth), Michael Graves (The Misfits), and Marky Ramone himself for a full concert of The Ramones. The legendary Rock Hall of Fame drummer for The Ramones is performing a special all-star fund-raising concert. The concert is in benefit for the newly-created Marky Ramone Drum Scholarship for Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA.
This week’s classic “Simon the Angry Sales Rep” rant was inspired by a few concerts at the K.R.C. The rule of thought is…don’t wear the band your watching’s concert T-shirt at the show. Simon feels the same way and this is what he has to say about it!
It’s been 11 months since my last post and the bosses here at the Drive have stopped harping me to write a new blog, so I decided to write you and give you some tech news!
Well it’s official! The geniuses at Apple have found a new toy that does all the same things our old ones do only better and more expensively!Today Steve Jobs announced the Launch of the iPad.A computer screen with a computer built in, or an itouch, but bigger! Don’t get me wrong I want one, but all of this hype over a glorified computer screen!?What’s next???The iAir? The iBall? The iEye? (actually that ones good, mark me down for a copy write on that one!)
I was hanging with some friends the other night and a familiar topic of conversation came.If you could put together a supergroup of any musician today, who would it be???That got me thinking….there have been many good ones already, Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, even Temple of the Dog, but my supergroup would start with a supergroup that has already been….Oysterhead!!I don’t believe you can find more of an interesting mix of Les Claypool on bass, and Stuart Copeland on Drums. The only think is, I think they need a few more…so here is “The Brain’s All-Time Best Supergroup!”
This weekend January 9 – 11th Myself (Brain) and 15 other Brave individuals will be camping in Confederation Park! Why would we do something so crazy in the middle of winter you may ask? For one reason….Shelter!
We’re raising money and awareness for our local shelter Kingston Interval House. As well as internationally, The Shelter Fundraiser will be aiming to purchase and provide 3-4 “Shelter Boxes” for disaster relief for Shelterbox Canada, a Rotary Club Initiative.
So that’s it! I’ll be in the park for the majority of the 48 hours (Minus a few to get back to the station to remind everyone what we’re up to) So if you get a chance come on down to Confed Park and say hi, and if you can spare it maybe a couple of bucks too?
Every Radio announcer has those days, where you have a show to do and you got nothin’. Thankfully there is one thing to pull us through….The Top 10 List. Nothing fills 30 seconds to a minute between songs better than a good ole fashioned list. So I got to thinking….What are my favourite lists?
So here they are in “List” form….
5 “Most Liveable/Beautiful City in Canada (usually Kingston makes it into the Top 5 so of course I naturally assume someone has been paid off!)
4 “Worst Roads in Canada” (this is a perennial favourite of mine, nothing bonds us together more than complaining how horrible our roads are….Damn Brock Street!!!)
3 “Best/Worst Jobs” (Every year I look at this one to see if A>My Job is in it, or B> My fathers job is in it! I like to prove to myself I made the right decision and my Dad is wrong!)
2. “Billboard Charts or any other music Chart” (It’s always relevant if a song or artist you are currently playing makes it into the top 5! Or, to see why the song you hate keeps getting played. See anything with/by Timbaland!)
1. David Letterman’s Top 10! (Hey he is Top 10 Lists!!! ‘Nuff Said.)
This past weekend I was watching one of my favourite cheesy 80′s movies….”Who’s Harry Crumb” when a familiar sound started to come out of my Mono home stereo speakers (yeah I don’t have HD or Stereo) Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero.” I remember a time when this song was on every 80′s movie’s climax either a chase scene, or my favourite a montage! It got me to thinking how many movie’s other that Who’s Harry Crumb has this song been on???? So….here’s a game, I’ll list another movie and you can ad onto the list and we’ll see how many there actually are!!!
I haven’t posted in a while and have really been trying to think of more poignant things to write, but until that happens I’ll just fill you in on some album news!If you’re a fan of Las Vegas’ most famous band outside of the Casino’s, The Killers release there third album, Day & Age, on Nov. 25. Listen for “Human” as the first single to be played some time soon on the Drive.
To the left is what the album artwork leaked a few weeks ago looked like. Obviously the album name has changed, from “Sawdust” but I do like the look!
Do you have any albums coming out you want to fill us in on?
A sick and twisted joke is going on with the people in charge of the city’s traffic lights. This joke has a name and it’s “Ontario Street.” I live downtown, and every once in a while I need to cross the causeway on a weekday morning. To walk to the causeway from City Hall takes me only 10 minutes (I timed it before writing. Trust). But if you try to drive it….wait for it…it will take 20 minutes (on a good day.) Why? I actually had a lot of time to figure this out (20 minutes to be exact) while sitting in my car and staring at the stop lights ahead of me. Here’s what I saw….
From Princess street to Barrack street, the lights are timed in a way to only let 1 or 2 cars through before thepreceding intersection stops traffic dead! There is absolutely no way of getting through the 3 stop lights without watching the sequence at least 4 times during morning rush hour.
There has got to be some sick twisted individual sitting in the KRC or S&R or some other building around there just laughing his head off at the carnage he causes each day from 6:45am – 10am Monday to Friday.
What’s your pet peeve intersection or road? Let’s make a list and the have a poll of which commute is the worst in Kingston.
