Mel Gibson…Shut Up!!

Monday, July 12th, 2010 by Reid

Yo Mel, why must you keep looking like an idiot?  I can’t even count the amount of times I watched Lethal Weapon and Lethal Weapon II…I loved Mel Gibson.  Loved is the key word.  Audio has been leaked pertaining his rant at girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and it is not good.  For the record, it hasn’t been confirmed that it is in fact him, but it sounds like him.  He sounds like an angry jealous boyfriend complaining about her large fake boobs and the way she dresses.  Could this finally be the nailin the coffin?  What do you think?

Reid Interviews METRIC

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 by Reid

Finally…finally, I got the chance to talk to Emily Haines from METRIC. I was starting to wonder. I haven’t really wanted to interview anyone that much in a really long time. Part of it was because I love her, the band, and especially, the music. The other part had to do with my quest to get them to play Kingston. I started a facebook group, I interviewed their manager, but I hadn’t personally asked Emily if/when they will come back to Kingston. That’s all changed now. I’m giddy. I felt like we had a really nice conversation. She was sweet, sincere, and just a pleasure to talk to. My only complaint is I wish we could have spoken longer, maybe when they come to Kingston…If you missed it or would like to hear it again, have a listen to the full, raw, and unedited interview.

Bif Naked Interview

Friday, May 15th, 2009 by Reid

98.9 THE DRIVE welcomes Bif Naked to the Ale House in Kingston June 12th.  Keep listening for your chance to win more tickets.

In the meantime, I had a chance to interview her the day her album (The Promise) came out, May 5th.  It is probably one of my favourite interviews.  She spoke so candidly about her battle with breast cancer and what it took to make the new CD.  How many people would get up in the morning, go to chemo, then trot over to the recording studio and sing their heart out?  Bif Naked would and did.  She’s a true inspiration.  Have a listen:

Would the real Mike Reid please stand up?

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 by Reid

Reid with Mike BullardWe went to see Mike Bullard on Friday February 13th at the Time To Laff Comedy Club and I got reamed over the coals.  I’m a pretty loud, out going, nutty kind of a guy, but I picked to wrong time to get shy.  I think it is because when I’m up on stage emceeing, I’m in control.  Friday I wasn’t.  I tried to casually say I was in radio (Bullard: :You seem a little big to fit into a radio) because I wanted to stay incognito…big mistake.  My umms, ahs, and pauses made me look like the worse candidate to be in radio.  And he let me know.  I told him my name was Mike…he said a guy named Reid interviewed me…I said same guy.  He made fun of me again for really stretching the “made up name”.  Was it funny?  You bet.  It continued all night long and he was always on his game.  Great job Mike Bullard.  And here I thought there was a reason his show was no longer on the air.  Great thing about his stand-up, you can go see him over and over again and it will always be different.  He has no act.  The lights come on and his goes to town on the audience…Friday it was my turn.  I think my face is still red.

Any crazy Mike Bullard stories out there?

Take Off Noel

Thursday, September 11th, 2008 by Ali MacLean

Canadians are so mild mannered, usually we won’t hurt a fly, but this past Sunday, one Canadian did jump up and hurt Noel Gallagher.  This one goof took out Gallagher from behind (see “Noel gets tackled” below) and understandably Gallagher is upset.  But come on…

“Someone who can only be described as a ‘Canadian’ was able to get onstage, somehow managed to evade our crack security team … and assaulted my mid-riff,”    – Noel Gallagher

I had always respected Oasis music, not so much their mouthy egos, but I like their tunes.  But to rudely group all Canadians with this one idiot who was either a huge fan, a drunk idiot or wanted to get back at Noel for one of his random arrogant rants – or all the above – how ignorant.

Noel Gallagher Now that I’ve mouthed off, I hope to not get tackled from behind, but if I do, I will not stereotype and group all of you in with someone that can only be described as a “Kingstonian”.

I’ll Make Ya Famous…

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 by Reid

Four day benders…wow! When you get a little older, they’re tougher to recover from. I’m not complaining, in fact I’m kinda bragging. I really don’t know too many people at my age that can handle four days/nights of heavy partying. Wait a minute that sounds bad. Let’s just get to the point.

Thursday, 98.9 THE DRIVE takes a limo with 12 AWESOME winners to go see Oasis. I’ll admit I’m a mediocre fan of the band, but they really put on a great show and entertained the audience. Best part of the show? The whole night in general. Our listeners thanked us for the tickets, but really…”Thank You”.

Saturday, while in TO for the weekend and the International Film Festival going on, I had a celebrity sighting. Well, he may not be the most famous, but he’s certainly a rich guy. At a bar called The Drake I found Sir Richard Branson dancing to some no name band. He’s like the UK’s Donald Trump. His net worth is about $4.2 BILLION. He owns about 360 companies and is known for his adventures, TV/movie appearances, and of course his “Virgin” brand.

Funny thing, he was so approachable. I went up to him, got his picture, shook his hand, and walked away like I would with any other nobody. Love The Drake (Seinfeld reference).

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met?
