Video Saves the Radio Song?
Heresy: I didn’t like the new Weezer single ‘Pork and Beans’ when I heard it last week.
To be perfectly frank, I’ve been disappointed by everything Rivers and the gang have released since Pinkerton. Granted, Pinkerton set an impossibly high bar.
But, since the video for ‘Pork and Beans’ was released, I’m beginning to change my mind. I’m not saying it’s suddenly a great tune, but the cameos by viral video ‘stars’ give the song an unexpected context. I can start to believe it’s a geek anthem like ‘Jonas’ or ‘In the Garage’.
Can a video save an otherwise mediocre song? I know I felt that way about Emily’s Haines’ Our Hell.
On a side note: Rivers, please lose the moustache.
