Them Crooked Vultures bassist John Paul Jones has explained that the band plan to record their second album later this year.

The bassist, along with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme, had previously revealed they planned to record a second album but now Jones has said we can expect it before 2010 ends.

“We’ll do a second album this year,” he told Stuff.co.nz. “By the end of summer, something like that.”

He added, “We’re all hard workers. In a way we need to do this for ourselves. Once we committed to it we worked as hard as a young band would, put the hours in. It’s got to be good – we’ve got reputations to uphold more than anything else.”

Arcade Fire have licensed “Wake Up,” from 2004′s Funeral, to the National Football League to use in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

But of course, there’s a catch: all proceeds from the license will be donated to Partner’s In Health’s relief efforts in Haiti.

You wanna take back that shout of “sell out!” now?

Arcade Fire have been promoting Haitian earthquake relief efforts since the news broke about the 7.0-magnitude quake just outside the Caribbean nation’s capital, Port-Au-Prince. Of course, they’ve got a personal connection to the island: Multi-instrumentalist Regine Chassagne was born in Haiti and her family immigrated to Canada during the years of the Papa Doc dictatorship.

Arcade Fire are said to be working on the follow-up to 2007′s Neon Bible with producer Markus Dravs, who also helmed their last record. It should be out sometime this year.
