New Pumpkins Track Online, Blind Mellon Singer Doc Coming This Year and Several Canadian Alt Bands on New Soundtrack…
The scoop on a new Blind Mellon project and a smokin’ new soundtrack after the jump, but first…
Billy Corgan’s Smashing Pumpkins have unveiled “A Stitch in Time,” the third track from the mammoth 44-song project Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, on the band’s official Website, where the song — and all the rest of the album’s tracks — is available as a free download.
While Corgan’s previous Teargarden tracks were heavier — “A Stitch in Time” is more psychedelic.

This fall will mark the 15th anniversary of the passing of Blind Melon’s Shannon Hoon, and his former bandmates are honoring their original singer with an upcoming documentary later this year. The film will feature footage from several sources but the main focus is the hours of footage Hoon shot himself over the years.
The film will include footage from Blind Melon’s tour alongside Neil Young and the Rolling Stones, Thorn giving Hoon an off-the-cuff haircut, and the recording sessions for both Hoon-era Melon albums, 1992’s Blind Melon and 1995’s Soup.
Blind Melon are still searching for a singer to take over for Shannon’s replacement, Travis Warren, who lasted for one album, 2008’s For My Friends. Potential singers are asked to submit an MP3 or YouTube link — singing a Blind Melon song of your choice — to blindmelonsinger@gmail.com.

The soundtrack to the upcoming Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World film adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim comic book series features tons of Canadian talent like Broken Social Scene, Sloan and Metric. You can hear Metric’s contribution to the film, “Black Sheep,” on their Facebook page now.
All you have to do to listen is “become a fan” of the band on Facebook. The tune can be found under the “Music” tab at the top of their page. “Black Sheep” is listed as an “unreleased B-side” in the far right column of the page that shows up, and clicking on it enables you to stream it.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World stars Michael Cera as the title character, a bassist for a band called Sex Bob-omb who has to win the girl of his dreams (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) by fighting off her seven ex-boyfriends who want to kill him. The Edgar Wright-directed film was shot in Toronto and opens in theatres Aug. 13.
